Expedited License Review Process for Defense Capabilities Initiatives

Noting the existing gap between U.S. military capabilities and the capabilities of other NATO allies, the U.S. Government (USG) has instituted an expedited processing procedure for the export of certain U.S. systems and key components, intended to bolster the military strength of U.S. NATO allies. Under the aforementioned procedure, NATO Allies can expect faster processing of certain export requests that support capabilities emphasized under the Defense Capabilities Initiative (DCI).

Accordingly, every year the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) publishes a list of items that further DCI objectives and that may be subject to expedited processing. Note, that when applying for an export license for items on the list and subsystems that the U.S. government determines are directly associated with items on the list, it is an exporter's responsibility to request expediting processing.
